Common Core of Science Courses for all Five Options

This nucleus provides a basis for better understanding of the interrelatedness of the sciences. Furthermore, in a state such as Oklahoma with many small rural districts, it provides a basis on which the teacher can build with minimal additional course work should (s)he desire to seek a position in a small district that requires teachers to have certification in multiple areas of science. And finally, it provides a basis for teaching middle school sciences.  In addition, each option includes a suite of unique courses for that option.

Cell Biology (BIO 2203)

Chemistry General Chemistry I and Lab (CHEM 1113 and 1101)

General Chemistry II and Lab (CHEM 1223 and 1201)

Physics General Physics I and Lab (PHY 1113 and 1101) or  
Physics for Scientists and Engineers I* and Lab (PHY 2014)

General Physics II and Lab (PHY1213 and 1201) or 
Physics for Scientists and Engineers II* (PHY 2114)

Earth Scienceearth Earth Science (PHY 3014)

*Physics Option requires Physics and Engineering I and II.

Transfer students should check the "Oklahoma Higher Education Course Equivalency Tables" to determine whether coursework taken at other Oklahoma institutions will transfer and apply towards these common core requirements.
