REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO PROFESSIONAL TEACHER EDUCATION

Students must be admitted to Professional Teacher Education prior to admission into some of the required courses in the Professional Teacher Education sequence.  Requirements for admission include:

• Successful completion of 40 semester hours of college credit.
• Documentation of experiences working with children (successful completion of TCHED 3023 will satisfy this requirement)
• Minimum GPA of 2.75 (2.5 for continuously enrolled students that initially enrolled prior to Fall 2000 as entering freshmen, transfer students, or degreed students seeking certification) in:
• All coursework attempted (including coursework completed at other universities)

• NOTE:  If your overall GPA is less than the above designated minimum, you may qualify for admission if you meet the following criteria:

  a. You have not attended any higher education institution for the past 5 years AND

  b. You have completed a minimum of 30 semester hours with a GPA of 3.00 since returning to school; half of these 30 hours must be required courses in your area of specialization.

• All courses required for the major (this would include all science courses).
• All Professional Teacher Education courses (this includes the required courses with TCHED, SPCED, LME prefixes as well as BIO 4853).
• Grade of "C" or better in 
  • six hours of English composition
  • All courses required for the major (science courses) that were completed after August 15, 1990.
  • All Professional Teacher Education courses (this includes the required courses with TCHED, SPCED, LME prefixes as well as BIO 4853).
• Passing score on the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) or meet one of the following alternatives :
• Maintain a 3.0 GPA in Liberal Arts and Science coursework
• Hold a baccalaureate degree (awarded prior to January 1, 1995)
• Successful completion of the OGET (Oklahoma General Education Exam) 
• Completion of an advisement interview with the departmental faculty advisor.
• Completion and submission of the following by Friday of the third week of the fall or spring semester in which application is being made (forms can be obtained after the beginning of the semester from Teacher Education Services, ED207 or online)
• application form (including transcript[s])
• felony questionnaire
• biographical information
• Formal approval by the Council on Teacher Education
