Degree Programs

 

Students enrolled in Biology Department may work toward one of three Bachelor of Science Degree.  They are the B.S. in Biology, the B.S. in Biology Education and the B.S. in Medical Technology.  The department offers a core of courses designed to provide students with a common breadth and depth of information.  Additionally, 23-24 hours of electives may be chosen from a large variety of available courses.  This allows students to tailor their specific academic program toward their future goals.

B.S. in Biology

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology provides students with employment opportunities in either the public or private sector.  The  program of study includes educational and scientific training needed to gain admission to graduate or professional schools.  Click here for detail Curriculum.

B.S. in Biology Education

The Bachelor of Science in Education Degree Program in Biology includes course work in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.  This program is intended to provide a basic background in the physical sciences and an in-depth understanding in the biological sciences.  It includes the minimal course  work required by the State Department of Education for certification.  Click here for detail  Curriculum.

B.S. in Medical Technology

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology Degree requires three years of study in the basic sciences and general education at UCO.  For the last year of study, a student must be accepted by one of six hospitals in Oklahoma which has such a program.  Successful completion results in a B.S. Non-Degree Pre-Professional Programs

Prerequisite courses in all the medical professions can be taken at UCO.  A student may then apply for admission into a professional school in one of the areas below.  Health professions students are recommended to enroll in Dr. Anne Ewing's course Introduction to Health Professions.
