The Doctor of Optometry degree is granted by Northeastern State University after the student completes four years in the College of Optometry. The student must also complete a B.S. degree, which is earned in one of two ways: (1) by completing any B.S. at UCO, or (2) by taking the suggested courses listed below and receiving the B.S. in Vision Science at NSU after completing two years in optometry and any remaining NSU requirements.

ENG 1113 Freshman Composition I ENG 1213 Freshman Composition II MATH 6 hours College Algebra, Trigonometry and/or Calculus CHEM 1103 + 1112 General Chemistry I CHEM 1223 + 1232 General Chemistry II CHEM 3303 + 3312 Organic Chemistry CHEM 3403 Biochemistry BIO 1104 or 1204 General Biology PHY 1114 General Physics I PHY 1214 General Physics II BIO 2314 Microbiology PSY 2703 General Psychology STAT 3103 Statistics
RECOMMENDED: Human anatomy, physiology, immunology and business courses.
HIST 1483 or 1493 U.S. History POL 1113 American Government COMM 1113 Fundamentals of Speech HUM 2113 or 2223 General Humanities HUM ----3 any general humanities course HLTH 1112 Healthy Lifeskills PHED ----2 Any activity course GEOG 2303 World and Regional Geography ELECTIVES: 9 hours
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree as well as pre-optometry required courses will be strongly preferred for admission.
