The Doctor of Optometry degree is granted by Northeastern State University after the student completes four years in the College of Optometry. The student must also complete a B.S. degree, which is earned in one of two ways: (1) by completing any B.S. at UCO, or (2) by taking the suggested courses listed below and receiving the B.S. in Vision Science at NSU after completing two years in optometry and any remaining NSU requirements.

RECOMMENDED: Human anatomy, physiology, immunology and business courses.

GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR OPTION 2

HIST 1483 or 1493 U.S. History POL 1113 American Government COMM 1113 Fundamentals of Speech HUM 2113 or 2223 General Humanities HUM ----3 any general humanities course HLTH 1112 Healthy Lifeskills PHED ----2 Any activity course GEOG 2303 World and Regional Geography ELECTIVES: 9 hours

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. A minimum of 90 semester hours, including the required courses listed above (and those general education requirements for option 2 if planning the B.S. in Vision Science at NSU). The application deadline is February 1 in the year of admission.
  2. A minimum overall GPA of 2.7. A recent class had an average GPA of 3.5 and OAT scores of 323

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree as well as pre-optometry required courses will be strongly preferred for admission.
