MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY

General Information:

Laboratory tests play a vital role in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Medical technologists perform a wide variety of procedures using chemicals, microscopic, bacteriological, and other clinical methodology. The importance of this work is recognized not only by physicians, hospitals, and governmental health agencies . . .but also in scientific research, business, and industrial institutions.

Prerequisites for admission to the hospital-based medical technologist program are established by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).

Requirements are as follows:

A medical technology information packet which includes specific admission policies concerning clinical training may be obtained from the Health Professions Advisor. It is important that the student receive this information and counsel with the advisor periodically concerning course selection, deadlines, etc.

COURSES:

Students may earn the Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from the University of Central Oklahoma upon satisfactory completion of the following curriculum and an additional one year in a hospital school approved by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for the training of Medical Technologists.
