The chiropractic profession is one of the fastest growing professions in the world today. Chiropractic was conceived by its founder, Daniel David (D.D.) Palmer, as an alternative health model to allopathic (M.D.) medicine. Chiropractic was conceived as both drugless and without the use of surgery. It would utilize natural therapies, primarily that of spinal manipulation. It would focus on causes and not symptoms. Around this focus, chiropractors have built a much wider health care model which includes nutrition, exercise, posture, stress management, weight management and a wide range of lifestyle counseling (ACA).
There are fifteen chiropractic colleges in North America. Admissions requirements for all chiropractic colleges are updated frequently. Since pre-professional requirements are subject to change, specific information should be obtained from the college admissions department prior to the time of your application. A minimum of 60 acceptable semester hours leading to a bacculaureate degree are required. Acceptable courses include the areas of Biological Sciences, General Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, English or Communication Skills and Humanities or Social Sciences. College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is accepted by Chiropractic Colleges in the United States. The UCO courses listed below will meet entrance requirements of most United States chiropractic colleges. Specific requirements for all U.S. and Canadian chiropractic colleges are available in the office of the Health Professions Advisor.
